Technology Behind Federspiel Solutions
Overview
Federspiel Controls has patented and patent-pending control algorithms that result in highly intelligent solutions for our customers. Our software accounts for the complex and tightly coupled behavior of the thermal environment in a data center. Our software automatically determines which cooling units need to operate at any given time, how to coordinate their operation to eliminate “fighting” between units and what temperature is optimal.
Our patent-pending commercial building HVAC solution learns the characteristics of the system so that commissioning is fast and simple and energy savings are coupled with occupant comfort.
The Federspiel Controls system is so easy to install that customers have installed it themselves. A single installation can be up and running in 1-2 days.
System Architecture
Federspiel Controls guarantees customers they’ll save energy and money. The basis of the guarantee is the Federspiel software. The software provides automated control of the cooling operation. The automation software is unique in the industry. It has a closed loop architecture that processes and analyzes the data received from the sensors and probes. It “learns” the characteristics of the cooling equipment, addresses issues like contention and overlap, and communicates with the control system to manage the operations of the cooling equipment. Other systems require operations personnel to analyze the data and manually change equipment operations. This is why energy savings are often lost. If your personnel aren’t diligent 24/7, there won’t be any savings and even if they are diligent the personnel costs can easily be more than the energy savings. Federspiel Controls is different. Energy savings are achieved through the intelligence of the software which is always on and always managing the performance of the cooling equipment.
Wireless mesh network technology
The Federspiel Controls wireless mesh network is based on the Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP ™) developed by Dust Networks ™. TSMP provides the system with a number of key features: All FACS wireless control modules (WCMs) and wireless sensor modules (WSMs) are mesh nodes, simplifying network commissioning. Sensor modules can run on batteries for years, increasing flexibility. Wireless mesh modules use frequency hopping, improving reliability and security. Wireless mesh modules use TDMA for channel access rather than CSMA, improving reliability.
