Get the FACS™
Federspiel Controls sells the Federspiel Advanced Control System (FACS™),
which is a wireless control system that performs supervisory control of HVAC systems, reducing energy consumption and improving
maintenance and operations by providing valuable information to legacy systems. The system utilizes state-of-the-art wireless sensor network technology
(mesh networking, spread spectrum, low power, etc.).
The system software consists device drivers, a SQL database, a web server,
web-based alarming, and a set of control applications for doing the following:
- converting constant-volume HVAC systems to VAV operation (DART™)
- resetting static pressure in existing VAV systems ( SAV with InCITe™ )
- data center cooling control
- chiller plant optimization
- demand response (DRIFT™)
The system hardware consists of the following components:
- Wireless Control Modules (WCMs)
and Wireless Sensor Modules (WSMs)
- a Web-to-Wireless Gateway ((WWG) for the wireless mesh network
- Federspiel Supervisory Controller (FSC), an embedded computer that runs the FACS software

IAQ-42
The IAQ-42 is an air measuring control damper
from Greenheck Fan Corporation that is
based on Federspiel Controls' patented SpeciFlow™ technology. It includes a programmable
controller that digitizes readings
from sensors, integrates
these readings to compute airflow rate, and controls an electronic
actuator so that the airflow rate through the dampers is close to
the setpoint at all times.
The IAQ-42 compensates for the effects
of temperature and altitude on air density, which can vary by 15%
from ambient conditions. It provides analog outputs proportional
to airflow rate, outdoor air temperature, and damper position. A binary input allows the IAQ-42 to
switch from flow control mode to position control mode for economizer operation.
The programmable controller is designed to use the LonTalk® communications protocol on an Echelon®
LonWorks® network. Click
